Awl & Hide was born from a simple appreciation for things made well.

I’ve always been drawn to craftsmanship, useful objects, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from working with your hands. Some of my favorite hours are spent alone in my workshop, with a project on the bench and the noise of everything else turned down. There’s something about that process—taking your time, paying attention to the details, and creating or handling something tangible—that has shaped the way I look at quality.

That same appreciation is at the heart of Awl & Hide.

We believe the things you carry every day should have character, purpose, and a story behind them. That’s why we seek out handmade leather goods crafted by skilled makers using traditional techniques and quality materials—pieces designed not just to look beautiful today, but to become even better with time.

Our collection is intentionally small. Rather than filling a store with endless options, we choose pieces we genuinely love and would be proud to carry ourselves—from timeless leather totes and dependable belts to wallets and everyday essentials. We look for honest craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the kind of durability that allows a piece to become part of your life.

Awl & Hide is a small, family-run business based in Montana, where my wife and I have been building a simpler and more intentional life of our own. That experience has only deepened my appreciation for hard work, craftsmanship, and the value of owning fewer things that are made better.

I’m not especially interested in chasing trends. I’m much more interested in things that feel honest, understated, and enduring—the kind of pieces that quietly do their job, age well, and become more personal the longer you own them.

Leather is meant to age. It softens, darkens, develops marks, and tells the story of where it’s been. I think that’s part of what makes it special.
